Motorcycle Accident Deaths

I read an article recently that truly upset me. It was about a newly married couple in Illinois. They were on their motorcycle, with friends and family ahead and behind them, traveling on a rural road to their reception party approximately 3 miles away when suddenly a deer darted out in front of them. The husband was unable to avoid hitting the animal and the new bride was thrown off the back of their bike. The husband suffered minor injuries but the bride, in her wedding gown, was taken to the local hospital where she, unfortunately, died approximately one hour later. From what I read the newly wedded bride had 2 children and worked as an emergency dispatcher in Illinois. My heart goes out to her husband and family. Thankfulness As I sit here writing what will be my last … [Read more...]

Avoiding Three-Wheeler Accidents

PA Motorcycle Accident Lawyer Advice I wrote just a couple of weeks ago at my New Jersey legal blog about purchasing a three-wheeler (AKA a “trike”) for my wife, the lovely Mrs. Cycle Attorney. After having ridden for years on the back of my own bike, she’s definitely caught the biking bug, but wasn’t sure she was ready to dive right in with a standard two-wheeler. We decided a trike would be the way to go, because we felt that this type of motorcycle offers a unique combination of safety and ease of riding, without sacrificing the most important factor of all – fun. So we did some research and ultimately chose the Can-Am Spyder. But despite the relative safety of three-wheelers, as a Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer who’s deeply concerned with the well-being of my biking … [Read more...]

6 Reasons a PA Motorcycle Accident Lawyer Might Decline Your Case

And Tips to Make It More Likely They’ll Accept It In my column from a couple of weeks back, I mentioned how frustrating the process of filing a claim can be if you’re not entirely sure of the steps you should be taking to assemble a strong case. But just imagine how frustrating it would be if no lawyer will take you on as a client in the first place. There are a variety of reasons a Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer might turn down your case, some of them more valid than others. Even if you believe you have a strong claim, there is absolutely no requirement that any motorcycle accident lawyer accept it. And if several turn you down, it may be an indication that your claim isn’t as strong as you think it is. Obviously, I cannot speak to exactly why another law firm might … [Read more...]

Distracted Driving Accident Facts

PA Motorcycle Lawyer Addresses Some Common Concerns Back in my early days, the worst type of distracted drivers a Pennsylvania motorcyclist usually had to be on the lookout for was some clueless schmo eating a cheese steak behind the wheel. Nowadays, drivers have so many options for ignoring the road, it’s no wonder that distracted driving accident statistics show a sharp spike in crashes involving a driver who isn’t keeping their eyes on the road. Besides the old standbys of eating, putting on makeup, and futzing around with the radio, today’s drivers have access to all types of technology – from GPS units, to MP3 players, and even TVs. Now with essentially full time internet access, you even have the ability to surf the net, or watch movies on your tablet or laptop while you’re … [Read more...]

Winterizing Your Motorcycle

7 Steps to Get Your Bike Ready for Winter Storage None of us wants to admit it, but that nip in the evening air (and the fact that it is October already!) can only mean one thing. Winter is coming. And while we still have about a month of weather warm enough for riding, it’s time to start thinking about putting our bikes away for the winter. As you know if you’ve been following my blog, I am both a long-time Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer, and an avid rider, so I am just as amazed at how fast the summer disappeared as anyone. And just as bummed about putting my bike away. And it isn’t just the deep, deep emotional trauma of getting out that tarp that’s so depressing, but all of the other tasks that go along with winterizing your motorcycle. To help you struggle … [Read more...]

Anxiety & PTSD After a PA Motorcycle Accident

A wide range of studies over the last several years has indicated that more accident survivors than you might imagine end up suffering long-term emotional distress after their crashes, even when there are no lasting physical injuries involved. As a long-time Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer, this doesn’t particularly surprise me. I’ve seen the emotional toll even a relatively minor crash can take, including anxiety, PTSD, depression – even phobias – over the course of my career. I understand how devastating these emotional effects can be, even if there don’t appear to be lasting physical injuries. The stress, anxiety, and mental anguish that are the tangential results of a personal injury can sometimes be considered a compensable personal injury themselves, depending on … [Read more...]

Motorcycle Accident Investigations

Collecting the Evidence You Need After a PA Motorcycle Accident One of the most common questions my clients ask me during our free initial Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer consultation is some variation on "What kind of evidence do we need?" and "How do we go about collecting it?" I’m happy to get this question because it demonstrates that my clients are thinking rationally about how to win their claim, and that they understand that they cannot count on the insurance companies to take care of the matter with their best interests at heart. It also shows that they understand that their word against the other driver’s word is not going to cut it, and that they need to take some initiative themselves. Motorcycle accident lawyers are tasked with protecting your rights, and … [Read more...]

Property Damage Recovery Primer

Get the Best Recovery Possible After a Motorcycle Accident I have always felt that one of my greatest strengths as a Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer is the fact that I’m also an avid rider. This passion gives me two big advantages when it comes to fighting for the most favorable recoveries possible for my clients. First of all, I understand the dynamics of riding a motorcycle. Facts and physics are unforgiving when the rubber leaves the road and you take a spill. A deeper understanding of the complex interplay of gravity, forward momentum, friction, and centrifugal force comes in handy when trying to understand and explain what went wrong. Secondly, I feel the same intense attachment to my bike that you feel toward yours. I know that many of my clients are more upset … [Read more...]

Demonstrating Motorcycle Accident Liability In PA

In the unfortunate event that you are in an accident involving more than one vehicle, or if there is a potential responsible party such as a city or state government entity, establishing who is at fault is going to be one of the most important and contentious steps of the process. Even if it seems blatantly obvious who is responsible, the insurance companies and the at-fault party both have an interest in demonstrating that the motorcycle accident liability is not theirs. To counter their arguments, you need to have solid ones of your own. Remember, even if all parties are operating in good faith, memories are not reliable. Over the course of my career as a Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer, I’ve seen seemingly open and shut cases fall apart (not when they were handled by a … [Read more...]

How to Get a Motorcycle Permit

A Guide for Pennsylvania Teens and Their Parents It’s summertime and that means lots of teens are out of school, and clamoring to jump on their bikes to blow off some steam. Which is great! With preparation, practice and parental supervision, motorcycle riding can be a great summertime activity for your teen, and a way for you and your kid(s) to bond. Obviously an important step in making that happen is for your teen to get his or her Class M license. As I have mentioned in writing before on my Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer blog, riding without a license – besides being illegal – is just an awful idea. With these factors in mind, I thought a brief primer on how to get a motorcycle permit in PA would be a good resource for teens who are interested in joining the biking … [Read more...]

Motorcycle Rally PA Summer Roundup

PA Motorcycle Rallies for Veterans' Charities Now that summer has hit in full force, it’s time for Pennsylvania bikers to hit the streets for our summer road trips. That means it’s time for another Motorcycle Rally PA Roundup, and this time, with Independence Day fast approaching, I thought I would focus on charity events that directly or indirectly assist veterans. In the course of my career as a Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer, and as an active, long-time member of the east coast biking community, I have met dozens of our fellow riders who have defended our nation around the world. In fact Veterans have historically been enthusiastic supporters and members of biker clubs, and biker clubs have often taken it upon themselves to return the favor by raising money and … [Read more...]
